Yesterday, October 14th, 2008 marked a very sad day...the funeral mass for a much loved and broadly respected friend Jose Padillo.
At 41, the old saying that "the good die young" certainly applies in this case.
Close to 2 years ago, I was walking out of the office together with my colleague Jose aka "Chispi" discussing a recent bout he had with stomach problems that had him under the weather. As the doors of the 7th floor elevator closed...Jose looks at me and says...listen...I want to level with you.."I've been diagnosed with cancer".
The subsequent ride down on this elevator has seemed to last now for 2 years...only arriving at the ground floor yesterday with his grieving family and friends mustering up enough will to gather around and celebrate his life and remember and honor his memories.
Jose whom preferred to be called "Padillo" was a passionate work-a-hollic, and just 2 weeks ago gave a marathon 2 hour presentation on a conference call only to zap his final batteries of strength to support a sales activity with Brazil.
I've been deeply effected by the loss of this friend and colleague. His courage and willingness to fight is greatly admired by all of us, and the resilience of his widow and young children show his life and vigor alive in their spirits and hopes.
Life is not easy to swallow all at one time, we must take a breath, a sip, and swallow one day at a time.
Keep your priorities straight and enjoy what is of true value, for time does not wait for anyone.
Wherever you are my friend...continue to grow as you did on earth.
