I know it's late this Thursday night of November 6th...the political storm has passed...and however tomultuous and turbulent we may have thought this election process to be...it is now over..and the seas of fear, hatred, and uncertainty are slowly and gently subsiding. That's not to say that we aren't experiencing a bit of bouncing and knocking around!
I hope my friend Luc doesn't mind me publicizing an excerpt from my last communication to him very early on the morning of Nov. 4th before setting off to vote...but the words I wrote have undergone such scrutiny by those whom I love most, not because of the validity of their truth, but by the fear of what is inevitable and not foreseen or obscured to the masses......
"Beyond this, I'm anticipating positively results of today's election...anything is better than what we have today, but hoping Obama is not too radical to cause major unrest or inspire assasination attempts and subsequent racial riots if so.
If we prune the outlying extremist right (neo-nazi, skin heads, gun holstering, rednecks, christian conservatives) which represent a good portion of low density rurual and sub-suburban populations as well as the far left (black muslim, communist infiltrates, agents, community organizers..) we are left with the battle between the rich and ....everybody else.
McCain represents and talks to the rich true to his political bend....Barack talks to everyone else.
The battle has been blatently won by the rich over the past 8 years with Bush opening up the flood gates streaming wealth from everyone else to the rich via changes in infrastructure which have allowed the abuse of powers to abuse the trust of consumers and pass through business rules which only favor commerce at the expense of the individual consumer, his rights, and say so.
The election today if won by Obama, will demonstrate a backlash to this abuse which will institute changes that will help balance the disequilibreum.
Outside of domestic policy...to have a Black American President in the eyes of the rest of the world, given the light of unacceptable brute force and arrogance created by "W", (and you can I'm sure expand upon this) for me has to cause a sense of relief by the rest of the world, being that the rest of the world does not appreciate being forcefed the notion that they are all "second rate" and that the USA is the "GREATEST NATION ON EARTH...EVER..and FOREVER"
More importantly however is not the change in political direction so much as the ability for a country which is actually composed out of every other country on earth to elect calmly and in a socially ordered way, a representative of the people which actually represents the people and not the bastions of power which have been over-domineering the political/economic policies of the past 20-40 years.
This act alone allows the US to take a step or two up onto the global geo-political platform and in the view of nation states, show a stance of global maturity and evolution which is more in line with the rest of the governing world.
The trick will be however, how to do so without extremely jeopardizing the economic well being of the US, or enabling this to happen in a smooth and seemless way by instigating new investment in globally attractive and beneficial technologies and motivating leadership within the US by offering opportunities in education and scientific professions which can serve as catalyst for this action.
Well...enough for 1st Tuesday in November ranting...."
Truth be said....all extremes are bad. Flat societal pyramids that distribute the wealth by the justice of the state are just that...flat. Tall and narrow pyramids that accumulate the wealth by the greed of privacy...become top heavy and eventually topple. The healthiest societies have a healthy body of middle-class, hard earned and responsible wealthy class, and a non-starving but educated lower class and....most importantly are a productive society.
We are a critical mass in this world. We can not as a nation "turn on a dime". We can not accept old bastions of thought or philosophy which have proven to run aground time and time again such as run away Robber Baron Capitalism, or the modern interpretation of so-called marxist ideoligies portrayed by "Fidelismo" or "Bolivaristas" of the left bregade, or by the "Shieks" of Oil who build Eden out of sand.
We have a democracy, a balance of powers, a constitution that respects rights of the individual, and our freedom of speech.
What we do not have however is something which governs our responsibilities....nor do we want to have such a system. It was President Reagan who said..."Freedom without responsibility and sacrifice, is just freedom...you can not have one without the others" (well something to that extent)
Let us now take on the responsibility individually and as a nation as we have done with this election and as we must do into the future, to strive for new technologies and innovation that can show leadership in new forms of energy, to invest in our children's education and produce a globally competitive school of new scientist, mathematicians, and doctors, to outsource certain tasks but not to outsource responsibility... and to have the consciousness as an individual, as a corporation, as a society to respect our fellow neighbors, cities, states, nation, and planet, and strive to make this a better place for all to live within...
